I USUALLY don’t pay much attention to political meetings. Blame the level of disenchantment that is currently afoot among the population with politics.
The United National Congress (UNC), however, has been on a massive mobilising campaign with their Monday Night Forums every other week and it has become very difficult to not pay attention to them and especially Kamla Persad-Bissessar these days.
It has always been my hope to see younger speakers on the platforms of the two major political parties. Paying attention to the UNC’s forum in Fyzabad on July 8, I was pleased to see two young speakers being given the opportunity to stand and speak on such a national platform.
A young Michael Rajnauth, who I assume spoke for the first time, captivated me as he spoke with such emotion and vigour. His tone had the entire audience attentive as he shared some very important information about a Youth Development Index Report that was produced back in 2016.
I was even more surprised to learn that the report ranked T& T among the five lowest-ranking nations in the world when it came to youth employment and opportunities.
I am happy that Mrs Persad- Bissessar, has been allowing young people on her platforms.
