Two men were killed in a traffic accident along the Western Main Road in Westmoorings this morning.
Around 4:50am, police responded to the accident involving a blue Hyundai Elantra driven by 19-year-old Jorrel Williams from Pt. Cumana.
The TTPS says it received information that the vehicle was seen heading west along the Main Road when the driver lost control.
The vehicle reportedly spun several times, crashed into a fence, and then burst into flames.
Williams and 20-year-old passenger, Justin Haynes, also from Pt Cumana, succumbed to their injuries.
Two other passengers were taken to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital.
PEDESTRIAN KILLED ALONG URIAH BUTLER HIGHWAY
Meanwhile a pedestrian was killed in another road accident two days earlier, on Friday 16th April.
The TTPS says the unidentified man was fatally struck around 7pm by a black Toyota SUV on the southbound lane of the Uriah Butler Highway near the Munroe Road Flyover.
The driver is currently assisting Chaguanas Police with the investigation.
These two incidents have brought the number of road accident fatalities for 2021 to 28.
This is compared to 36 for the same period last year.
The TTPS however says while this represents a reduction of 22%, these incidents are preventable.
As such, it is urging the public to exercise greater care, caution, and responsibility when using the nation’s roads.
