2020 rainy season declared, expected to be overall above normal


    Following the passage of a tropical wave today, the Met Service has officially declared the rainy season.

    It says rainfall associated with a tropical wave or ITCZ, whichever comes first, marks the beginning of the season which will last for the next six months.

    An overall above normal wet season with more rain than usual between June and August and an elevated concern for floods during that time.

    September to November is expected to have normal amount of rainfall.

    The Met Service is reminding that the hurricane season runs from June 1st to November 30th.

    It says for our area of interest, there will most likely be six named storms with two likely to become hurricanes.
