$3m to buy out leave for 60 officers for “special patrol team”

It has cost around $3 million to bring 60 police officers out of leave to man an anti-crime initiative.

At a media conference today, National Security Minister Fitzgerald Hinds explained that the Acting Police Commissioner recently came up with a strategy to intercept criminals and their weapons.

He said he then sought cabinet approval to buy out the leave of 60 officers to ensure the initiative was properly resourced.

Questioned about the cost of bringing out the 60 officers, Mr Hinds gave further explanation for the decision.
