42 Diego squatters get Certificates of Comfort

42 squatters in Diego Martin were given Certificates of Comfort by the Government last Friday.

However, they have been advised that the document was not a Deed and should not be sold, assigned or transferred to anyone else.

Housing Minister Edmund Dillon says it was also not a license to grab more land by extending the boundaries.

Following the CoC, the holders will be issued a Statutory Lease, giving them a maximum of 30 years to pay for the land, which will be sold at a quarter of its value.

When the land is paid for, the beneficiaries will be eligible for Deeds of Lease for a period of 199 years.
