Nine Venezuelans have been held in South Trinidad.
Around 10:15am yesterday, police received an anonymous tip that Venezuelan immigrants were seen coming off a boat at the Palo Seco Beach.
Officers arriving at the scene observed nine Venezuelans coming off a small wooden boat – two adults, four teenagers and three small children.
On seeing the officers, the driver of the boat sped off and escaped.
The nine Venezuelans were detained and have since been taken to the Siparia Health Facility for COVID-19 screening.
According to the TTPS, they are currently being held at the Erin Police Station.
