Government does not pay minimum wage to any of its workers, so why the big announcement of an increase in the national budget?
MSJ Leader David Abdullah says while the Finance Minister appears to be giving citizens something in the budget, it is not his prerogative to deal with minimum wages.
Mr. Abdullah says this is the work of the Minimum Wages Board, which has to submit a report to the Parliament for approval.
The MSJ leader meanwhile called it a ‘cut and paste’ budget, stating his belief that at least 30 percent of the presentation was repeated from last year.
He was speaking at an OWTU post-budget forum today.
