Agriculture Minister Clarence Rambharat says the $500 million agricultural stimulus promised in the Budget will fund a series of projects, including the full digitization of State land files.
This, he adds, will ensure a more timely distribution of agricultural parcels.
At a Lease Letter Distribution Ceremony yesterday, the Minister lamented that persons had to wait “an average of 30 years” to have their leases “straightened out”.
He says approximately 10,000 of the 30,000 State land files were digitized over the last five years, however he expects the remaining 20,000 files to be done in the next two years.
The Agriculture Minister also warned that the State will be “moving aggressively” to reclaim lands from persons who would have received leases for agriculture purposes but have not done so.
Those lands, he added, will be re-distributed.
