AMCHAM worried about increase in deficit

AMCHAM T&T is concerned with the Finance Minister’s announcement of an increase in the budget deficit.

In his Mid-Year Review, Mr Imbert said the overall fiscal deficit will increase from $4.05 billion, to $4.57 billion.

AMCHAM T&T says while macro-indicators have stabilized and the economy is indeed growing, it remains relatively fragile, with GDP currently hovering around 2009 levels.

As such it believes the focus should be on building and strengthening the economy by using resources to engage in activities that bring value for money, without increasing the public debt.
