Beetham man charged with assaulting woman

    A 36-year-old man has appeared in court for allegedly assaulting a woman.

    Around 5:30am on August 1st, the accused allegedly went to the home of the victim in Beetham Gardens, where he woke her up and accused her of being unfaithful.

    An argument ensued during which time he allegedly placed his hands around her neck, causing pain.

    The woman escaped and alerted officers on patrol along the Priority Bus Route, who were able to apprehend the suspect.

    Dean Collins appeared before Port of Spain Magistrate Cherril-Anne Antoine yesterday charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

    He pleaded not guilty and was granted $20,000 bail, with the condition that he lives at his father’s residence in Sangre Grande.

    The matter was adjourned to August 28th.
