CMO – info on deceased COVID-19 patient should not be in the public domain

Information on the individual who died yesterday as a result of COVID-19 is being unethically shared online.

And Chief Medical Officer Dr Roshan Parasram says he will be looking into that breach, to determine how it occurred.

The CMO today re-emphasized the need for patient confidentiality, as he responded to a reporter’s question during the post-cabinet briefing.

Some have been speculating that the elderly gentleman may have been in the country for a while before becoming ill.

When asked about the possibility of it therefore being a local case, Dr Parasram says the attending doctor is the one that makes the designation.

Dr Parasram also defended the delay in publicly confirming what is the COVID19 fatality in T&T.
