A Commission of Enquiry has been appointed to probe what Government is calling the unjustifiable valuation of land for the San Fernando to Point Fortin Highway project.
According to Minister Stuart Young, the decision came after a Works Ministry team found that $500m of an allotted $800m was spent on acquiring properties, some of which were unnecessary.
He adds that over-valuation is just one of the issues to be examined.
Mr Young also defended the use of a Commission of Enquiry just over a year before a General Election.
The Enquiry will be chaired by retired justice Sebastian Ventour.
