Deyalsingh laments “callous” action by private healthcare provider

St Augustine Private Hospital is being criticized for its handling of a subsidy payment issue with the Government.

According to reports, patients seeking dialysis were told to pay for their treatment or be turned away, since the State owes the facility $2.3m in subsidies.

Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh told the Senate today that the Couva Multipurpose Health Facility will ease dependence on the private sector for dialysis.

Meanwhile, Mr Deyalsingh says the 37 patients in need of dialysis at St Augustine Private were accommodated elsewhere.
