District prison opened for COVID-infected inmates


    A district prison has been assigned at Forres Park, Claxton Bay to house inmates who have been diagnosed with COVID-19.

    The Prison Service says the facility will cater for charges whose medical conditions are mild, asymptomatic and stable, while those will more serious conditions will be treated at a public facility.

    The district prison which can accommodate 23 patients was inspected and approved by Principal Medical Officer of Institutions Dr. Maryam Richards.

    It is expected to have its first intake of 13 prisoners.
