Divali Nagar to be held virtually this year

    COVID-19 restrictions have led to the cancellation of the usual Divali Nagar festivities at the Nagar compound in Chaguanas this year.

    The National Council for Indian Culture’s Public Relations Officer Surujdeo Mangaroo has confirmed though, that a Virtual Divali Nagar 2020 will instead be held.

    He says details regarding dates, contents and platform of the virual event will be revealed subsequently.

    Mr. Mangaroo notes that the cancellation of the physical celebrations by the NCIC’s Board of Directors came “After intense deliberations and assessing of the many risks involved and to ensure the health and safety of artisans, artistes, staff and members of the public”.

    He adds that “Our most recent Covid19 Public Health Regulations with its restrictions on assembly/mass gatherings etc. creates numerous difficulties for rehearsals and preparations for this National Event.”

    After intense deliberations and assessing of the many risks involved and to ensure the health and safety of artisans, artistes, staff and members of the public, the Board of Directors of the National Council for Indian Culture(NCIC) has decided that it is most prudent at this time to cancel Divali Nagar 2020 celebrations.

    Our most recent Covid19 Public Health Regulations with its restrictions on assembly/mass gatherings etc. creates numerous difficulties for rehearsals and preparations for this National Event. However, please note that we will be presenting a Virtual Divali Nagar 2020, details regarding dates, contents and platform will be given in a subsequent release.
    We wish to apologize for any inconveniences that may be caused but the health and safety of our citizens and patrons are paramount.
