Doctor urges under-vaccinated pregnant population to get flu shot

The pregnant population is an at risk group for influenza but, according to a health expert, it remains largely under-vaccinated.

Director Women’s Health, Dr Adesh Suirjusingh, speaking at the Health Ministry’s media conference this morning, noted that patients with the flu require the same resources as those affected by COVID-19.

He warned that influenza can be deadly, particularly to the vulnerable groups such as the pregnant.

Dr Suirjusingh also sought to allay concerns about the vaccine.

The vaccine is available at health facilities across the country on certain days and can also be acquired Monday-Friday at two health facilities per county.
