Drama Association backs Theatre Arts teachers on CAPE concerns

The National Drama Association has thrown its support behind CAPE Theatre Arts teachers, who are upset over the structure of the upcoming Performing Arts exam.

CXC has maintained that CAPE Performing Arts students must do the production for Unit 2 Performing Arts Dance and Drama.

Earlier this week, Theatre Arts teachers voiced a number of concerns, including the fact that they have less than half the time to prepare the students for the exam, adding that it will be difficult to socially distance students given the ensemble nature of theatre work.

They are also questioning why the CAPE production has been kept, while the CSEC Productions for Dance and Drama have been omitted from this year’s exam.

They say students already have practical marks in place following their monodrama, which can be used in lieu of the Production as is being done for CSEC students.
