All national identification cards currently expired or due to expire in 2021 are now valid until December 31st 2021.
This is according to the Elections and Boundaries Commission which says the extension of the expiry date is a further extension to one implemented in December 2020.
It says this move has become necessary largely because of the ongoing requirements of public health regulations.
EBC believes this extension will facilitate persons who are unable to make an appointment at this time due to the temporary closure of the call centre and manage the number of persons visiting offices.
The Commission says it is mindful that some institutions, which appear not to have been aware of the extensions, have refused to accept expired ID cards.
However, it is reminding that the cards are valid and should be accepted when presented.
