“Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” drama reboot in the works

“The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air” is making a serious return.

The popular series is set to be revived, but based on a viral YouTube video that re-imagined it as a hard-hitting drama.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Will Smith himself will be a part of the adaptation, teaming up with Morgan Cooper, who is the fan that made the viral video.

“Bel-Air” is described as a dramatic take on the beloved ’90s series that catapulted Smith to stardom – he starred as the street-smart kid who moved from West Philly to the posh Los Angeles neighborhood.

While the original series did tackle serious issues including racism, the re-imagined version will reportedly dive deeper into the inherent conflicts, emotions and biases of what it means to be a Black man in America today, while still delivering fun nods to the original show.

The Hollywood Reporter says the new “Bel-Air” has been in the works for more than a year after the video by Cooper went viral when it was posted in March 2019.
