Priyanka Chopra Jonas will reportedly remain as a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations.
This week, Pakistan called on the UN to strip the actress of that title, saying “she encouraged nuclear war”.
The claims against her escalated following an exchange between PC and a Pakistani Activist during a recent beauty event.
The actress was called out for a tweet posted earlier this year, that some interpreted as supporting the Indian Army at a time when India and Pakistan were teethering on the brink of war.
According to Times of India, UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric is quoted as saying:
“Any goodwill ambassador whether it’s Miss Chopra or anyone else, we expect them to adhere to impartial positions when they speak on behalf of Unicef or any other organization …(but) when these ambassadors speak in their personal capacity they retain the right to speak about issues of interest or concern to them. Their personal views however do not reflect the views of the agency with which they may be affiliated with”.
