Environmental group wants consultations on sugar tax and warning labels

A local environmental group is calling for public consultations towards the implementation of a sugar tax and warning labels on unhealthy foods.

Fishermen and Friends of the Sea Corporate Secretary, in a media release, commended government for passing legislation to require tobacco companies to include graphic or pictorial health warnings on cigarette packets.

Now, it believes focus should be placed on a sugar tax similar to the tobacco taxes and warning labels for unhealthy foods.

Mr Aboud believes that until the country meaningfully addresses such regulatory mechanisms, public health will degenerate.
