No residents were affected even as firefighters fought for 10 hours to extinguish a blaze near the Guapo landfill yesterday.

The Local Government Ministry, on its Facebook page, says the blaze started on the compound of Earth Environmental Company Ltd around 2:10pm.

It says the Disaster Management Unit of the Point Fortin Borough Corporation was mobilized to support WASA and the Fire Service.

The blaze was reportedly brought under control close to midnight.

Newsday reported today that OSHA would return to the site, which contains 3 pits that are used for bio-hazardous waste.

According to the article, fire officers believe the cause of the blaze may have been a spreading bush fire.
