The Santa Rosa First Peoples Chief claims Government funding has been difficult to access and believes it is more important than ever to get the money.
103.1FM News spoke with Mr Ricardo Bharath Hernandez as the community wraps up celebrations for First Peoples Heritage Week.
He says their fundraising efforts are being hampered by the COVID-19 pandemic and laments that state allocations are tied up in bureaucracy.
The money, according to Chief Hernandez, will help the community finish work on 25 acres of land given to it by the state in 2018.
Turning to the past week of celebrations, Mr Hernandez believes headway is being made in the efforts to raise awareness about the First Peoples.
He notes that interest has even been shown about the community from outside of T&T.
