Griffith calls for investigative body with arrest powers, external to the TTPS

Former Police Commissioner Gary Griffith believes there is a need for an investigative body with the powers of arrest, external to the TTPS.

Speaking in his capacity as Interim Political Leader of the National Transformation Alliance, Mr. Griffith says committees are often formed to look into serious issues of concern in T&T.

He pointed out however that these entities cannot hold persons accountable in instances of criminal activity.

Mr. Griffith says the Special Anti-Crime Unit (SAUTT) was intended to be such a body, but was shut down since it did not have the proper legislative framework.

He insisted that such an entity now be set up to ensure results.
