Heritage Petroleum has contained an oil leak which developed at Sanderson Park in Fyzabad yesterday.
The company says around 4:30pm the leak was discovered following which the company’s incident command team was activated and personnel immediately dispatched to the scene.
It says the 4” pump line, which was the source of the leak, was isolated around 5:15pm and confirmed that approximately two barrels of oil were spilled.
The road was closed and all vehicular traffic was diverted.
The T&T Fire Service was also advised of the incident and was on site to wash and remove excess oil on the roadway.
Heritage Petroleum adds that the pipeline was sealed with a temporary clamp and returned to service at 8:15am this morning.
The company says though that it is scheduling the replacement of all the pipelines at the Sanderson Park Road crossing.
All contaminated material meanwhile was also in the process of being removed and taken to a Heritage remediation site.
It says the Energy Minister and other regulatory authorities have been notified of the incident.
