The Social Development Ministry says house visits are being made as part of assessments for rental support applications.
It says over 900 such applications have so far been received, 90% of which are actively being processed and verified via telephone and house visits.
It says the house visits have become necessary in an attempt to counter fraudulent claims that are “being encountered daily”.
The Ministry meanwhile has received a donation of 1,000 masks and several cases sanitizer from BHP T&T.
These are triple layered, reusable and locally-produced, and will be primarily distributed to frontline workers at the Ministry.
This will include those carrying out field assessments, who are sometimes met with unsanitary and risky conditions.
