Kalpoo brothers help find missing man in the Caroni Swamp

After nearly two days lost in the Caroni Swamp, Johnny Sookdeo has been rescued and returned to his family.

Mr Sookdeo went missing around 2pm on Sunday after going to catch crabs.

When news of his disappearance became known, search efforts were launched by the Kalpoo Brothers, who operate boat tours in the area.

Mr Sookdeo was found shortly after 9 o’clock this morning and although he had been severely bitten by mosquitoes, he appeared to be in good spirits.

He was subsequently taken for medical attention.

103FM News spoke with Navin Kalpoo, who says Mr Sookdeo was found some three miles from where he was last seen.

He adds that while some were expecting the worst, he remained optimistic that the missing man would be found alive and well.

Mr Kalpoo has since shared several videos on Facebook in which Mr Sookdeo shared his experience.

Meanwhile in a separate video, Navin Kalpoo warned persons about the dangers of venturing into the Caroni Swamp.

He reminds that the terrain can be difficult to navigate, while the mangrove trees can confuse persons as to exactly where they are.
