Local subscription TV providers get extension for US Free to Air Networks

Local subscription TV providers will be able to carry US Free to Air Networks (CBS, NBC, ABC and Fox) for a few extra months.

Previously, the Telecommunications Authority warned that these channels would be pulled from local rosters from January 1st 2020, since providers had failed to secure the proper intellectual property rights.

Today however, TATT announced that it has approved an additional three-month forbearance.

The period of enforcement will now begin after March 31st, 2020.

TATT says the extension will better allow local subscription service providers to procure suitable replacement content.

It adds that concessionaires have already been notified of TATT’s its intention to enforce against subscription television broadcasters who continue to air US Free to Air Networks after March 31st 2020.
