A Sangre Grande man shown in a video abusing a child has appeared in court on charges stemming from that incident.
The accused pleaded not guilty when he appeared before a Sangre Grande Magistrate charged with Cruelty to a Child under Section 4 of the Children Act.
He was remanded into custody until February 10th when the matter is expected to resume.
On January 5th a report was made to the Child Protection Unit in relation to the video which was circulating on social media.
The TTPS says an investigation was immediately launched in collaboration with the Children’s Authority, with the suspect subsequently arrested and charged on January 11th.
So far for 2020, the CPU has charged seven persons for breaches of sexual offences against children, and one for cruelty to a child.
