Mayor: A Port of Spain without street dwellers viable “within a few years”

Could Port of Spain, in a few years, be a city where most, if not all, homeless persons are off the streets?

The answer to that question is yes, according to Mayor Joel Martinez, who today spoke to 103.1FM News on the “move along” policy.

This is where municipal police attempt to persuade the homeless to move closer to the government facility set up for them at Riverside Plaza.

Mr Martinez says officials are now looking to provide an additional building in the same area to house more socially displaced persons.

Mayor Martinez believes if this plan is successful, most Port of Spain street dwellers could be in facilities in the not too distant future.
