Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh has put forward a proposal for a new, centrally located mental health institution.
Speaking during the Budget debate today, Mr Deyalsingh lamented the state and age of the current St Ann’s Psychiatric Hospital.
This new facility he adds, would eventually replace St Ann’s.
Mr Deyalsingh insists this is not a knee-jerk reaction to recent incidents, but has instead been a work in progress for months now.
He also put forward an idea to help dispel the stigma associated with mental health.
The Minister also believes the recent ban on sugary drinks in schools has had a significant impact, and is now looking to step up the health campaign.
