Minister promises 10% of T&T’s electricity to come from renewable energy by 2021

Public Utilities Minister Robert Le Hunte is promising that at least 10% of the country’s electricity will come from renewable resources within the next two years.

He says T&T must become more dependent on renewable energy because of the UN Paris Agreement for the lowering of greenhouse gas emissions.

T&T became a signatory to the Agreement in February 2018.

According to the Guardian, the Minister says Government is committed to sticking to the terms of the Agreement which calls for a global effort to lower Carbon Dioxide emissions, to reduce the effects of global warming.

Costa Rica recently announced it would be the 1st nation in the world to be carbon neutral by 2021 – one of the most influential factors in their carbon status is that 98% of their electricity comes from renewables.
