Ministry warns of health risks posed by floods

Following widespread flooding yesterday and today, the Health Ministry is urging persons to be aware of certain associated health risks.

It says flood waters may carry silt, raw sewage and bacteria that can contaminate food and water.

It adds that the risk of infectious disease such as leptospirosis and gastroenteritis are especially high in flood situations, and after heavy seasonal rains.
