Mon Repos man charged with killing 84-year-old Torrence Mohammed

A 32-year-old man has been charged with the murder of 84-year-old Torrance Mohammed.

Mohammed, of Tarouba Road, Marabella, was visiting a friend in Mon Repos on May 24th, when he was assaulted and robbed of a cellular phone and a gold chain.

He was then pushed to the ground, causing him to sustain broken ribs and injuries to his back and spine.

Mohammed was taken to hospital where he died the next day.

The accused was arrested on May 28th at his Mon Repos home, and charged yesterday.

He is expected to appear virtually before a San Fernando Magistrate today.

There was public outrage after the attack on Mr Mohammed, who was a former deputy mayor of San Fernando and a cultural icon.
