Cabinet approval has been given to add monkeypox to T&T’s list of dangerous infectious diseases.
Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh, speaking in Parliament today, says over the past weeks officials have been preparing, in case the virus reaches this country.
He explains that adding monkeypox to the dangerous infectious diseases list is the same thing government did for COVID-19 and allows for quarantining of cases.
However, he says the virus is different from COVID-19 in the way it is spread and dismissed the idea of closing the border to affected countries.
The WHO says monkeypox has symptoms very similar to those seen in the past in smallpox patients, although it is clinically less severe.
