Motorists are being urged to keep within the speed limit on the roadways at the UWI St Augustine Campus.
In a memo sent to students today, the University says the speed limit within the campus is 30 km/h, while the speed limit within the car parks is 10 km/h.
UWI says the campus environment is one in which the roads are narrow and there are persons crossing as they go about their daily activities.
It states that motorists should always drive at a speed that is safe for the conditions that may exist on the road and surrounding environment, and should be able to stop the vehicle within a reasonable distance.
It adds that motorists should also pay attention to traffic signs and road markings, such as pedestrian crossings, which should indicate heightened risk of persons walking or crossing the roadways, as well as other hazards.
