Multi-million dollar upgrade of SFGH electrical system after mortuary mishap

    San Fernando General Hospital

$29m will be spent over two years to fully upgrade the electrical system of the San Fernando General Hospital.

Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh made this announcement after confirming that a breaker malfunction caused a mortuary fridge, which houses bodies, to stop working for an entire day.

He says it has since been repaired with operations returning to normal but admits that the electrical infrastructure must be improved.

Mr Deyalsingh says he has apologized to families who have been affected by the issue and the SWRHA will provide counseling.
