The National Carnival Commission sees the recent Carnival announcement as an opportunity to further develop the national event.

It says it is in complete accord with Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley, who yesterday stated that there will be no Carnival next year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

It adds that the announcement has opened the way for meaningful discourse on how Carnival can be celebrated beyond the scope of a purely physical event.

The NCC says its next step as an organisation depends heavily on building on the groundwork that has already been laid to restructure and innovate Carnival and its many events.

This includes exploring viable ways of digitally promoting the Festival, while safeguarding both its sustainability and the nation’s health and wellbeing.

It says stakeholder consultations will resume soon with all relevant partners, including the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and the Arts, to map out its next steps.
