The 2020 SEA Exam will be held on August 20th, despite recent developments involving primary schools.
Two schools had to be shut down, after SEA students either tested positive for COVID-19 or were found to have been in contact with someone who tested positive.
Today following a meeting with stakeholders, Education Minister Anthony Garcia said they “will continue to monitor this ever changing situation and if needed, augment and adjust for the benefit of all within the school community.”
He said discussions about moving the SEA date identified logistical challenges given the limited timeframe in which to request deferrals from the Ministry of National Security for the CXC testers, as well as the mandatory 14-day quarantine upon their arrival in the country.
Concerning the continuation of physical classes in the lead up to SEA, some expressed concerns for the health and safety of students, while others advocated for school to remain open to mitigate any further psychological impact on students.
The Ministry says it will assess the situation for the remainder of this week before announcing a decision early next week.
