The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management recently participated in a virtual training exercise involving the US Embassy’s Military Liaison Office and the Delaware National Guard.
The Interagency Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief virtual learning and training exercise took place on September 15th and 16th.
The programme was delivered by the DNG and highlighted the emerging international best practices in disaster coordination operations at the national and international levels.
According to the ODPM, emphasis was placed on Disaster Preparation and Operational Planning, Interagency Emergency Response Coordination, Consequence Management, Critical Infrastructure Protection, Common Operational Picture Development, Crisis Communications and Logistical Support in Disaster Environments.
It says key national-level response agencies also benefitted from the exposure, including the TT Defence Force; Police Service; Fire Service; Tobago Emergency Management Agency; TSTT; and the Ministries of Rural Development and Local Government; Works and Transport; and Social Development and Family Services.
The exercise was initially supposed to be delivered in-person in January 2020, but was postponed due to COVID-19.
The ODPM says the virtual training provided a platform for the DNG and its partners to share their experiences in Interagency Disaster Management Coordination at the State and local levels.
