Opposition Leader raises concerns about gas prices

Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar claims fuel importer, Paria Fuel Trading, is in dire financial trouble after less than a year in existence.

She believes her allegation is evidenced by a letter written to the Energy Minister by Chairman of Trinidad Petroleum Holdings, Wilfred Espinet.

The letter supposedly refers to an ongoing shortfall of US$20m, and Mrs Persad-Bissessar is worried about its impact on gas users.

Mrs Persad-Bissessar believes this situation shows that the State had no plans to follow the shutdown of Petrotrin’s refinery and the restructuring of the company.
