Government is looking to do away with the border closure arrangement and exemption system.

During a media briefing at the Diplomatic Centre today, Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley pointed out that vaccinations have been accelerated in North America in particular, which means mixing will be easier.

He added that a meeting will be held with Caribbean Airlines in the week ahead, following which a decision will be made.

Dr. Rowley said there would be certain “conditions” to be met by travelling persons.

He gave some insight, but stated that more will be revealed after the meeting.

Last year Government announced that T&T’s borders would be closed from March 22nd 2020, with all commercial flights suspended.

    CARNIVAL 2022?

Dr Rowley said Carnival 2022 is too far away to make a determination on.

Instead, he says Government is focused on other things, including the possibility of reopening schools come September.

He was responding to questions from reporters during today’s briefing

Today meanwhile, the Prime Minister announced new curfew hours on weekends.

On Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, the curfew will run from 7pm to 5am.

This will come into effect tomorrow, June 6th.

The curfew time for Monday to Thursday remains 9pm to 5am.
