T&T is committed to achieving its energy sustainability targets in a way that will not cause undue economic distress, according to the PM.
Dr Keith Rowley spoke at the start of the 2021 Trinidad and Tobago Energy Conference which has been themed “Leading the Caribbean’s Energy Transition”.
The Prime Minister said T&T, which has been using natural gas for power since the 1950s, has started the process of including renewables in the energy mix.
However, he noted that the gas produced here is already playing a role in the energy transition of other countries and will continue to do so in the coming years.
Dr Rowley also said as work continues in T&T towards sustainability targets, any strategy must ensure stability to citizens.
He noted that some behavioural change will be expected of persons to use energy more efficiently.
