Fishermen and Friends of the Sea were challenging the EMA’s decision to grant a Certificate of Environmental Clearance to the Works Ministry for the construction of the 5000-meter roadway.

They claimed the Aripo Savannas nature reserve was being damaged.

However, the Works Ministry says it was always its intention to protect the environmentally sensitive area.

It says it will continue working closely with the EMA to minimize any adverse effect on the environment during construction.
