Siparia Regional Corporation Chairman Dr Glenn Ramadharsingh is calling for a tie-breaker to be implemented for the upcoming Local Gov’t Elections.
He recalled the incident in the last Local Government Election where the Sangre Grande Regional Corporation was given to the PNM, despite the UNC having an equal number of seats.
In that instance, SGRC Chairman Terry Rondon cast the vote to break the deadlock.
Dr Ramadharsingh says the Siparia Regional Corporation has also had a similar experience.
Just last week, Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar made a similar call at a UNC meeting.
Dr Ramadharsingh was speaking during a Joint Select Committee for the Local Government Reform Bill this morning.
