Sangre Grande man in court for fraud

A Sangre Grande man has been granted bail after pleading not guilty to obtaining money by false pretense.

Between February 2nd 2018 and September 9th 2018, a man reported to police that he paid $80,000 for a vehicle, after being assured that it was free from all encumbrances.

Sometime after taking possession however, the vehicle was seized by a bailiff acting on behalf of a financial company.

The victim claims he later learned that the man who sold him the car had failed to complete payments for it and was in arrears.

35-year-old Jevon Sanchez appeared via video conferencing before a Sangre Grande Magistrate today, where he was granted $80,000 bail with surety or a $20,000 cash alternative.

The matter was adjourned to August 5th.
