Condolences are pouring in following the death of extempo/kaiso/jazz music pioneer, Clive “Zanda” Alexander.
According to the Tourism Ministry, Zanda, born in Siparia into a musical family, is widely regarded as the creator of the fusion of folk, jazz and calypso music.
It says he was a master of musical improvisation and performed at major events at home and across the Caribbean, influencing many upcoming jazz musicians.
Tourism Minister Randall Mitchell said Zanda leaves behind a rich musical legacy.
A report by LoopTT indicates that he passed away this morning at the Port of Spain General Hospital due to complications associated with diabetes.
