The T&T Transparency Institute is calling on Government to prioritize the full proclamation of the Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Property Act.
It points out that the Office of the Procurement Regulator is already successfully established, while the vast majority of state agencies are ready to operate under the new legislation.
It says modern public procurement legislation is a fundamental requirement if T&T is to promote good governance and eradicate corruption.
It adds that a fully operational Procurement Act will help ensure accountability in expenditure, build trust and confidence at all levels of society, and encourage investment from local and foreign sources.
Another outstanding matter that the TTTI wants action on is Whistleblower legislation, which did not receive full support when it was laid before Parliament in 2019.
It wants the Bill to be reintroduced to Parliament and for both Houses to expedite the passage of this long outstanding piece of legislation.
On the matter of Campaign Finance Legislation, it reminds that the Representation of the People (Amendment) Act was placed before a Joint Select Committee months before the General Election.
The proroguing of Parliament however means this process must be started anew, something it says should be dealt with and implemented before the next Local Government Election.
