TTMS issues Wet Season, Hurricane Season forecasts for T&T

The TT MET Service has issued its Hurricane Season forecast as it relates to a particular area of interest for T&T.

This area is located to the east of the country, over the Atlantic Ocean.

According to Chief Climatologist Kenneth Kerr, this area will likely see two to five named storms in 2022, with four being the most likely figure.

He adds that two to three hurricanes are likely, with two the most likely number.

He warns that any cyclone forming in the Area of Interest has the potential to threaten T&T and the rest of the Eastern Caribbean and urged citizens to be prepared.

Also, according to Mr. Kerr, the 2022 Wet Season in T&T is likely to be volatile and erratic.

He says T&T is expected to see above normal rainfall, with the likelihood of 110-112 wet days.

The country is also likely to see 16-20 heavy rainfall days, with 4 to 10 extremely heavy rainfall days.

The flood potential is also much higher than normal for known and emerging flood prone areas.
