TTPS: 25 road fatalities during Carnival season

Police are urging motorists to ensure greater compliance with the road laws, since there were 25 road fatalities for the Carnival 2020 season.

It says more than half of the victims were young persons.

The Police Service says these avoidable, unfortunate traffic deaths occurred on roadways with a maximum of 50 to 65 kilometers per hour speed limits.

If these speeds were obeyed, it says in almost all cases, they would not have resulted in fatal injuries to drivers, vehicle occupants and pedestrians as well as damages to property.

The TTPS says while it has maintained rampant efforts to curb errant driving, road users must be aware of and practice road safety and exercise greater caution.

This includes obeying speed limits, wearing seatbelts, refraining from using handheld devices while driving and ensuring vehicles are roadworthy.

It says these can greatly help prevent these types of tragedies from occurring
